Integration of E-Coat and Powder Coat Lines
American Trim is one of the few companies of any size in the world to offer an integrated line. The integrated line combines the value of E-Coat with the cosmetic durability and QUV protection of powder paint in one efficient processing line.

Electrocoating (E-Coat)

What is e-coat...

Electrocoating (ECoat) is an organic coating method that uses electrical current to deposit paint onto a part or assembled product. The film is deposited evenly and continuously over every surface, crevice and corner. The thickness of the coating can be controlled by the voltage applied during the immersion bath.

What we do...

American Trim has been running a successful E-Coat line since 1996 using a Cathodic epoxy process for primer and final finish parts. Our E-Coat process is specifically designed for automotive, heavy truck and industrial components that require a robust pre-treatment to ensure excellent corrosion resistance. E-Coat provides uniform coverage of surfaces with precise film build control.

E-Coat Advantages
  • Highest material transfer efficiency (95-99%) obtainable by any coating process
  • Excellent film uniformity and control
  • Highly automated processing reduces labor requirements
  • Total coverage with masking of nuts, bolts, and threads available
  • High productivity - Dense line racking
  • Supports any metal substrate
  • Process is capable of providing the highest first-run capability of any coating process at very high line speeds.
  • Environmentally Safe
    • Water-based
    • VOC as Low as 0.1 lbs/gal (12 g/l)
    • HAPs Free Formulations
    • Heavy-Metal Free Formulations

What is e-coat used for...

Our E-Coat process is targeted to larger part applications. It is a preferred coating for the automotive, appliance, agriculture and motorcycle industry. It is used as a primer for decorative parts such as bumpers and a final finish for less exposed under body parts including brackets and cross members.
